Job Title:Research Associate (1 year, fixed term contract with Cell

Responsible to: Senior Scientist

Medica is a leading global cellular immunotherapy company focused on the
development, manufacturing and marketing of cell-based therapeutics for the treatment
of cancer.

An opportunity is now available for a Research
Associate to support preclinical research, process development and analytical
development activities at the laboratory facilities in Belsize Park, London. With
this position, individuals can make an important contribution to advancing this
exciting new field of cellular therapeutics. This role is a 1 year fixed term,
but there may be an opportunity for it to become permanent.


We are seeking an enthusiastic Research
Associate with a strong background in immunology or biotechnology to join our
R&D team. The individual should possess strong team-working skills and a
drive to learn new skills. The Research Associate will work under the direction
of the Senior Scientist to support preclinical and process development R&D
into novel cellular immunotherapies.


With the guidance of the Senior Scientist, plan
and execute R&D experiments

Carry out cell culture (cell lines, primary cell
culture [T cells, NKT cells])

Perform immunology assays (e.g. flow cytometry,
proliferation, cytotoxicity) to characterise cells

Carry out molecular biology assays to assess viral
load and transduction efficiency (e.g. qPCR)

Assist the Senior Scientist in the development
and validation of analytical methods for characterizing immune cell therapy

Accurately record and store laboratory generated
data (protocols, laboratory notebooks, analysis files, reports, Powerpoint

General laboratory housekeeping, including
activities such as equipment monitoring, cleaning and ordering

Interact with and support the work of scientists
in the R&D team, and the wider project team

Education and Experience

BSc or MSc in immunology or cell biology related
subject (E)

At least 1 years’ hands-on laboratory experience, ideally in a biotech environment (E)

Experience of primary cell culture (E)

Familiarity in immunological cell-based assays,
e.g. flow cytometry, ELISpot, proliferation, cell-based cytotoxicity assays (E)

Experience in developing and validating
analytical methods (D)

Experience of designing 6-8 colour flow
cytometry panels and flow cytometry data analysis (D)

Experience of viral load qPCR assays, viral
vector technology (D)

Experience of large-scale cell culture (e.g.
processing apheresis) (D)

Experience of GMP technologies (e.g. Sepax,
LOVO, cliniMACS, prodigy) (D)

Experience working in a G(C)LP environment (D)

Good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word), and
analytical/statistical software packages (e.g. Graphpad Prism, FlowJo) (E)
