Job Title: Controller

Location: Houston

Cell Medica is a private
equity backed pre-revenue cellular therapeutics company developing transformative new treatments for
cancer based on genetically engineering the patient’s immune cells.

The Controller will be responsible for leading the accounting function for the company and all subsidiaries. Leading a small team based in the UK, this hands-on position is responsible for all aspects of the accounting function. Primary responsibilities include general ledger, monthly close, accounts payable, treasury, budgeting, and ensuring that reported results and processes comply with international financial reporting standards (IFRS). The position will also support the CFO in future fundraising rounds including a possible IPO. Travel to London required on a quarterly basis.

Responsibilities

Management and development of
the accounting team

Oversees the activities of the
Accounting Department for the accurate and

timely dissemination of financial management reports including internal
and external financial statements, annual audits, annual budgets, tax returns
and regulatory reports

Issue timely and accurate
financial statements; lead the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual
financial statements and reports

Production of the annual and
monthly budgets and actual variance reporting; evaluate and understand the
variances to budget before issuing financial statements

Management of relationships
with third party accounting and tax services providers

Manage the daily cash position
including cash forecasts and short-term investments

Serve as primary relationship manager
with the auditors and lead the external audit process

Implementation of best
practices and process improvement to existing systems

Implementation, maintenance
and enhancement of Sarbanes Oxley compliant internal control processes in
preparation of potential IPO

Lead the technical accounting
for the Group including day to day transactions, the impact of changes in IFRS
and the accounting for complex transactions related to intellectual property
and other business development activities

Provide input to company
business development planning regarding potential impacts to financial
accounting, financial process and internal controls

Support department heads with
in-depth analysis and preparation of PowerPoint decks for the board of
directors and senior management team

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Masters preferred

CPA certification required

10-15 years of experience
including as an assistant controller, or sitting controller;

Public accounting experience
preferred, 2-5 years

Minimum two years of Full Cycle Accounting experience, including
oversight of Monthly/Quarterly/Year End Close

Strong technical knowledge (IFRS)
and demonstrable experience of dealing with complex transactions

Experience of valuations,
impairment testing and acquisition accounting.

Responsibility for group
consolidations and production of consolidated IFRS financial statements

Public company experience
beneficial

Strong proficiency in Great
Plains, Excel and PowerPoint

Life sciences or Biotech industry experience a plus
